(More customer reviews)I have always been pleased with Crank Brothers products and the rebuild kit is no exception. The parts are high quality and the instructions are clear and concise. In addition, the Crank Brothers web site has videos to illustrate the rebuild procedure. I do recommend, however, that you check your pedals frequently and rebuild them before the bearing cartridge falls apart. That makes disassembly a bit more difficult because the outside bearing shell is hard to get out.
I gave the product five stars, but the description of the kit on the amazon site is worth only one star. All six rebuild kits say they're for one set of 2002 eggbeater pedals. In fact, only one of the six is for the 2002 eggbeater. You have to go by the name of the kit to get the one you want unless you want the eggbeater. None of the kits have eggbeater in their name. After much research at other web sites, I discovered that the kit for the 2002 eggbeater has a (2) suffix and for subsequent eggbeaters a (3) suffix.
The next question was how do you know if the pedal you need to rebuild is a 2002 or later version. Again, I had to do quite a bit of online research to learn that the 2002 has a rubber end cap and the 2003 and subsequent have a plastic or metal end cap with a screwdriver slot.
This is not the first time that I've run into this kind of problem at amazon.com. I have found that many bicycle parts do not have an adequate technical description for me to make the proper selection. Sometimes I get the missing information from other sites and come back to amazon. Other times I buy from another source.
