(More customer reviews)I am not usually one for scathing reviews but... This has to be the single worst bike pump ever to see production!!
I never tried it on a schrader type valve, but it proved extremely difficult to use with the presta valve tubes on all my bikes for the following reasons:
1. The pump must be pressed into the presta valve head with a quite a bit more force than any other pump I have used (both handheld & upright) to ensure a seal.
2. The pump does not lock or secure to the valve head, hence constant force must be applied to maintain the seal lest the pump deflate the tube. This makes the pumping action complicated since one must apply force in two perpendicular directions. (also kind of tiring)
3. The pump volume is quite miniscule even though the pumping action is relatively difficult (the two are usually somewhat inversely proportional) probably due to poor sealing or high friction design (poor engineering)
4. The complicated forces of the pumping action put unnecessary stress and fatigue on the connection of the valve and the tube. I actually destroyed the seal between the valve and the tube on two tubes! This can happen relatively quickly as it takes about 200 - 300 pump strokes to get the tube to just 40 psi (if you don't accidently let air out while resting or readjusting your hand position)
5. The slippery and uncomfortable handle of the pump folds out to make for an awkward, unstable (pivots in either direction) pumping action.
I am probably forgetting some other reason why the pump sucks but you get the point. Surprisingly, there were a few good points to the peace pump, which is why it earned it's lone star:
1. Mounted on my bianchi volpe fairly securely
2. Fairly lightweight
3. Product name contains the word "peace"
4. Is supposedly rebuildable if the pump seal fails (though mine suffered an irreparable fate from the karma it accrued by destroying two innocent tubes)
Please don't buy this product until the manufacturer redesigns it. (Peace Pump II?) There are many other great handheld bike pumps out there. Any other Planet Bike pump will do a much better job, and for much cheaper than the Peace Pump.
